About the LotusS/V Lotus is the Felicity model by designer John Simpson of Delta, BC. S/V Lotus has a pedigree thanks to John, a contemporary of the great group of designers in the Pacific Northwest, which includes Bob Perry, Bill Garden, Ted Brewer, George Buehler, and others.
John Simpson is a stability design specialist, and as a result, the Lotus, with 8500 pounds of lead ballast, features full roll recovery capability. With its pilothouse for visibility, and flush deck for added buoyancy and comfort below, the Lotus is a very stable, roomy, good-looking vessel. Three boats have been built of this design: Seismic Wave was the first, built in California and sailed in Washington to Alaska. Lotus is the middle sister, computer lofted & CAD cut, built in Oregon, sailed around the world and is currently in Oriental, NC. Vari is the third Felicity boat, built in Washington and sailed across the Pacific to Australia, currently sailing in Malaysia. These safe, good-handling offshore cruising vessels, are easily handled by a crew of two. All three of the boats were sailed offshore by married couples (who are still married.) "During our 10-year circumnavigation on Lotus, we visited 40 countries and sailed over 50,000 offshore sea miles; including the north latitudes to Peril Strait in Alaska, down to Central America, and across the South Pacific, including New Zealand and Australia. Then on to Southeast Asia, the southern Indian Ocean south of Madagascar to South Africa, around the Cape of Good Hope to Namibia, and across the Atlantic to St Helena and Trinidad, before heading up the Caribbean and Bahama Islands to the U.S. In all of these travels, we sometimes worried about the weather, we worried about offshore tankers and pirates. But we never worried about the integrity of the boat. We had a good boat under us. The S/V Lotus will take you anywhere in the world you want to go–safely. You can take that to the bank."
